Quick In – Quick Out -- Feb 12, 2016

This is going to be a quick post today from our winter spot near Yuma, AZ.  There are so many visitors/snowbirds using the same signal towers, the internet is pretty slow around here.  Hopefully I can get some pictures to post!  I has already taken me an hour just to sign into my blog....not due to the internet...but because I forgot I had changed email addresses since the last post.  With Google, you have to be signed into the right email before anything can happen.  ACK!

Not a whole lot going on….all quiet on the western front!  The weather is great --  80’s and about 12% humidity, plus a nice breeze.  Like they say, “it’s a dry heat”!  But, really, it’s true….the low humidity makes all the difference in what 84* would be here vs. South Carolina, for instance.  No comparison!  My arms are very tan already from morning golf and reading out in the camp chair.  80's - almost 90* predicted for the next 10 days....and sun, sun, sun!

The other day there were some "controlled burns” going on over the northern ridge out towards the Colorado River.  Smoky for a few minutes, but the wind was moving east so it didn’t travel over here to the BLM.

But, talking about “wind”…..the other night there were gusts clocked at 74.9 miles an hour out here!  Nikko and I were holding on for dear life!  LOL!  Well, not quite, but it was pretty unnerving.  Especially since we sit up on this ridge with no where to go but “down”!  Needless to say, we didn’t sleep at all that night!

I actually took that photo from Bill and Sue’s place where they had a Super Bowl party on Sunday with about 25 people.  They brought their big screen TV outside and we set up our own little stadium to watch the game.  TONS of food!  I brought that same baked fruit casserole I made at Thanksgiving, but changed it up a little.  Several people want the recipe – on my “to do” list.  I also made an apple gallette which was pretty good...and easy!

Anyway, we had a lot of fun and most everyone was rooting for the Broncos, so it was a good Super Bowl!  Their neighbors and my friends, Dotti and Walt, had a campfire afterwards, but I needed to get back to the RV and check on Nikko.  It’s a little bit of a hike from down at the main hub to my place…in pitch darkness on really, no path much at all, so a kind soul drove me back.

I’ve posted a lot of photos taken from the RV of the reservoir.  Here are some from around the water’s edge.  Unless we’re in a sand storm, it looks like this every day.  One day there were a lot of gulls on the water, which doesn’t happen very often.  Good thing I mentioned what these white specks are....they don't look like gulls!

The little vegetation we have around here is starting to “green up”….just like in the spring in most parts of the country.  There will be more blooms showing up soon….like the cactus….one of my favorites!

And, of course, I can’t leave you with no sunrise and sunset photos!

The upcoming agenda includes a golf outing at a different course here on the BLM.  It takes a car to get over there so I don't play there...it's hugely different than the course we play every day...not flat and open at all.  Anyway, a group is getting together next Wednesday to play "best ball" and eat a lot of food!  On the 25th is the big Chili Fest virtually next door to me, hosted primarily by Cora and Merle.  About 100 people showed up last year!

That’s about all for this quick post.  Only about another 5-6 weeks here. Time flies! Still researching our summer plans.  I’ve tossed around 4-5 ideas/routes so far.  Pretty soon I’m just going to have to choose one idea and stick with it so I can start plotting all the free campsites.

Thanks so much for your continued use of my Amazon link!  No order is too small!  It all helps and goes toward my high Verizon internet costs so I can continue to post this blog.

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!

  1. So glad you had a fun Super Bowl party! Great to have others around to enjoy things with.

Been so cold here that hearing about you being in the warmth is reassuring that it will be warm here one day, too!

    Keep taking great pictures!
