So, I'm not really airing dirty laundry.... it's clean now! Thanks to my handy dandy $39 Wonder Washer! Hadn't used this new RV toy yet but it had gotten great reviews...(see my solar shower hanging there, too?? Another super item!)
I'm posting this primarily for those who might be considering the RV life...or if you go on extended camping trips.
For two "loads" of laundry 1) 3 prs socks, unmentionables, and 3 t-shirts; 2) 2 shirts and 2 pairs of jeans I used a total of about two gallons of water and about 2 tsps of a great laundry detergent that my sister made up for me (recipe to follow). All you do is put in the water/detergent, then the clothes....put on the cap...turn the screw knob on the top to pressurize the tank and turn the crank for about 2 minutes. Drain out the water with the convenient tube, add rinse water... crank another 2 minutes, drain, wring out your clothes and hang them up! That's it! Took a total of about 20 minutes for both loads....and very little water. Everything came out great!
After I got back from getting propane and water yesterday, I parked in the same spot, just a little further back into the site. That's why I didn't see THIS until today when I was doing the laundry!
Look closely!
Someone shed his skin! Probably a black racer... 3+ feet long. The word "long" makes me hope he's LONG gone! He only has until tomorrow to show up again, so I'm crossing my fingers that's not going to happen!
Back to toys.....charging my phone right now on this carry-along solar charger....folds up like a little notebook for storage or you can put it open on your backpack and charge as you're hiking (back to the sun)....pretty nifty!
Here's the recipe for the laundry detergent. A little goes ALONG way! The amount she gave me in a plastic container... 4x4x3...could last me the rest of my life! Only need 1 tsp/small load. Much more money savvy than buying store detergent!
1 bar Fels Naptha - dried and grated
1 cup Borax
1 cup washing soda
Later this afternoon, in the distance, I hear thunder rumbling. This is as good a time as any to "break camp". I start bring outdoor things in, roll up the awning....everything needed to get rolling in the morning. I've been here all week! And it's been another great spot all to myself! I look around at my site and decide to move up the lane towards the main road for the night. I didn't want to be walking around in anything (like wet dirt) but grass in the morning if it was going to be raining. I found a good, level, grassy spot even with the lane, so that will make for an easy exit. Of course, there's still no one around here!
Tonight will be purposefully simple. Leftovers on a paper plate. Don't need any mess since I'll be leaving early....but still need to check the island's weather report later tonight.
So, that will wrap it up for July 3rd. Happy Birthday to my nephew, Zack, down in Brunswick, GA! I'll be there at some point!
I'll check in from the North Carolina coast if I can get there, that is! They are saying 100mph winds - Category 2. I've been in hurricanes before, but I don't want to be in one again !
Happy Fourth, everyone! Be safe!
I am so glad the "washer" worked as well as it did! I had been wondering about that! Be careful tomorrow and let us know the real scoop on the hurricane...
ReplyDeleteGreat toys for RVing! And glad Mother isn't seeing your friend's skin!!

Goodbye, Dick Cross! Beautiful pictures from your WMA!
